On August 18 and 19, 2023, Skills for Change hosted Diverse Voices of Canada: Culture, Community, and Celebration—a vibrant two-day in-person event that brought together diverse communities to honour Canada’s multicultural identity and build intercultural understanding.
Day 1: Networking & Celebration Evening
Held on the evening of August 18 at TBOT in Toronto, the event welcomed community members, donors, partners, and Skills for Change staff for a lively evening of cultural performances, global cuisine, and strategic networking. The evening also featured a special award ceremony, recognizing key community partners for their invaluable contributions to building an inclusive Canada.
Day 2: Main Cultural Celebration
On August 19, the celebration continued at the Skills for Change head office and parking lot, transforming the space into a cultural mosaic of performances, food, and storytelling.
Key highlights included:
- Opening Ceremony led by an Indigenous group
- Keynote address highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion
- Spoken word performances reflecting themes of resilience and unity
- Live music and dance from diverse cultural communities
- Food from around the world
- Interactive arts & crafts stalls
- Storytelling sessions from community voices across Canada
- General networking and community engagement
The event welcomed over 300 attendees from various cultural backgrounds, including immigrants, refugees, BIPOC, and Indigenous communities, creating a space for sharing, learning, and celebration.
Through rich storytelling, expressive art, and meaningful dialogue, the Diverse Voices of Canada event underscored the collective contributions of Canada’s diverse communities and advanced conversations on equity, inclusion, and systemic barriers.
